Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–NY) lost her bid to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee to Rep.
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D–VA) secured 131 votes while Ocasio-Cortez received 84 votes, marking a blow for progressives who supported her.
What they’re saying: Following his election by the House Democratic Caucus, Connolly expressed gratitude for the support and confidence placed in him to lead House Democrats on the Oversight Committee.

- Connolly emphasized the need for Democrats to be prepared for potential conflicts with the Trump administration, stating that he was “raring to go” and had previous experience in dealing with the administration during his four years in office.
