Baugh concedes to Min as Democrat captures Orange County district

Democrat Dave Min will head to Congress to replace Katie Porter, who ran a failed campaign for Senate.

Republican Scott Baugh has conceded to Democrat Dave Min in a critical House race in Southern California’s 47th District, which was being vacated by Democrat Katie Porter (D–Irvine).

The Associated Press has not declared a winner yet due to thousands of uncounted ballots.

The big picture: Baugh admitted that his campaign fell short, ending his bid to capture Porter’s seat.

  • The 47th District, which includes Huntington Beach, has shifted demographically over time and has become more Democratic, like much of the state.
  • The race between Min and Baugh was contentious, with Min calling Baugh a “MAGA extremist” and Baugh criticizing Min’s “extreme liberal views.”
