Grocery store chain Aldi has announced an increase in starting pay for warehouse workers to $23 an hour.
This move precedes the busy holiday season and the addition of more stores across the country, with plans to hire 13,000 new workers.
The big picture: Aldi’s national average starting wage for store employees will be $18 an hour, while warehouse workers will make $23 per hour, with rates based on market and position.
- Employees who work more than 30 hours a week are eligible for health insurance, paid time off, and other benefits.
- Additionally, Aldi has implemented new flexible scheduling and 100% paid parental and caregiver leave in response to employee feedback.
What they’re saying: The company noted that many employees who join the company early on tend to advance in their careers, with 7 out of 10 assistant store managers and over 30% of store managers starting as sales associates.
- “Whether it’s our in-store team filling shelves with fresh produce, warehouse staff managing logistics, or drivers delivering our trending ALDI Finds, our employees field the quicker, easier and more affordable shopping experience our shoppers know and love,” said ALDI President Atty McGrath. “Our ability to attract and retain talent has always been key to our success, and we look forward to helping our new team members grow in their careers.”
