A Fresno runner finished as the top American finisher in the Boston Marathon on Monday.
C.J. Albertson, the head coach of cross country at Clovis Community College, placed seventh in the race.
Driving the news: Albertson, who graduated from Buchanan High School, finished with a personal best time of 2:09:53.
- This was his fourth time running in the Boston Marathon. While he led the pack for 20 miles in 2021, he fell behind and finished in 10th place that year.
- His seventh-place finish was within four minutes of the top runner on Monday. Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia set the pace with a time of 2:06:17.
- Albertson was nearly three minutes faster than the next American, Elkanah Kibet, who placed 14th.
What they’re saying: “The course suits me,” Albertson told ABC30. “All the downhills kind of beat people up, but I handle them pretty well and so I’m able to run basically my fastest times on Boston.”
