Two men in Tulare County are organizing a fundraiser for the family of the victim who passed away last week during the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.
Frank Van Landingham and Jody Jones are organizing the benefit for the family of Corey Comperatore.
The big picture: Van Landingham and Jones are holding the fundraiser at Crawdaddy’s in downtown Visalia on Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Crawdaddy’s owner Keith Korsgaden offered to host the benefit and give them the restaurant for the night when he heard they wanted to raise money for the Comperatore family.
- Tickets will be available at $250 per person or $1,500 per table, with all checks payable to Buffalo Township VFC.
- A number of local elected officials plan to attend, including Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, Sen. Shannon Grove (R–Bakersfield) and Asm. Devon Mathis (R–Visalia). Former Congressman Devin Nunes will also be in attendance.
What they’re saying: “We just want to show that we have love here in the Central Valley in California, and we want to protect our protectors,” Jones said. “We want to give back to the family. This man died a hero. Not only was he there to support what he believed in, he was protecting his family. He threw his body over his family and got shot and killed.”
- They said that if people are unable to afford $250 for the benefit, they are welcome to donate any amount they would like to through the QR code on the event flier (located at the bottom of the article). They communicated with Buffalo Township VFC, where Comperatore was a former fire chief, to ensure that all money donated goes directly to Comperatore’s family.
- “We realize no matter how much money that we raise for this family, nothing will bring back their loved one,” Jones said.
- Van Landingham added, “Hopefully this brings them a little bit of comfort.”
