No on Prop. 50 campaign launches new TV ads

The ad blitz to stop partisan redistricting is fully underway in the Golden State ahead of the Nov. 4 special election.

One of the groups working to sway voters to oppose partisan redistricting in California has launched new television ads.

Stop Sacramento’s Power Grab, a No on Prop. 50 group, has released two new TV ads this week, which follow up on its first TV buy last week.

Driving the news: California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democrats in the Legislature have pushed through a ballot measure that would redraw the state’s Congressional lines to favor their own party.

  • Prop. 50 would do-away with the independently drawn Congressional map for the next three elections, when the California Citizens Redistricting Commission will draw new lines following the 2030 census.

Flashback: Last week, Stop Sacramento’s Power Grab launched its first TV ad against Prop. 50, which was in Spanish.

The big picture: The two new TV spots highlight how Prop. 50 will replace the independently drawn map with a partisan one.

  • The two ads are titled “Power GraB” and “Highest,” and they both went on the air on Tuesday.

What they’re saying: “Gavin Newsom and his shadow campaign for president are doing everything possible to deflect attention from his failed record as governor and the real harm that Proposition 50 will impose on all Californians. Handing more power to the same politicians who have made living in California impossible while wasting $300 million on a partisan special election is the last thing that voters want to support,” said Jessica Millan Patterson, chair of the Stop Sacramento’s Power Grab committee. “These ads expose the truth and why Californians must reject this brazen power grab.”
