Kirkland finished in fourth place in both the March primary and the special election.

Driving the news: Kirkland, who owns Club One Casino in Fresno, placed fourth in the primary with 4.1 percent of the vote.

  • He also had a fourth-place finish in the special election this week to serve out the remainder of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s term, getting 5.2 percent.

What they’re saying: Kirkland issued a statement on Thursday urging voters to support Boudreaux in both the May 21 special election run-off and the general election on Nov. 5.

  • “There is one choice that clearly reflects our community’s values and will fight for us in Washington: Sheriff Mike Boudreaux,” Kirkland said. “He has demonstrated a deep commitment to listening to our concerns, finding common ground, and being an advocate for us all. He also is the only candidate with a long track record of fighting for and delivering a safer Valley.”
  • Boudreaux said it has been a blessing getting to know Kirkland over the past few months.
  • “He is an exceptional business and community leader who has contributed greatly to the Valley’s success and been instrumental in protecting some of our most cherished friends – our pets and animals,” Boudreaux said. “I’m honored to have his support in this campaign and look forward to seeking his counsel on critical issues facing our Valley economy when I’m in Congress.”
