Gray overtakes Duarte in razor-thin House race

The latest ballot drop from Merced County swung in favor of Adam Gray.

Weeks after Election Day, Rep. John Duarte (R–Modesto) has lost his leadto former Asm. Adam Gray (D–Merced) as ballots continue to be counted three weeks after the election. 

The big picture: With the latest update from Merced County coming in on Tuesday, Gray now leads Duarte by 105 votes in the race for Congressional District 13.

  • Gray leads 50.03% to 49.97% – 103,790 votes to 103,685 votes. 

What we’re watching: Ballots throughout the district will continue to be counted into next week until the election is certified. 

Flashback: Duarte defeated Gray two years ago by 564 votes in one of the closest races across the nation.
