Sanger Unified trustee Brandon Vang is near to capturing Fresno’s lone open City Council seat, representing southeast Fresno, to succeed now-Fresno County Supervisor Luis Chavez.
Vang closed out Tuesday night’s special election with 1,859 votes – or 50.5% of the vote – against a four-person field headlined by Fresno Unified school trustee Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas.
Here’s a look at the results: Jonasson pulled in 1,262 votes as of the final update on Tuesday night, accounting for 34.56%.
- Barraza won 449 votes, or 12.2% of the total vote. Paul Condon earned 92 votes, or 2.5 percent of the vote. 9 votes were written in, accounting for 0.24%.
What’s next? Per the Fresno County Clerk’s office, 580 ballots are currently in-hand awaiting processing. Additional ballots postmarked effective Tuesday and received by March 25 could also determine whether Vang secures an outright victory or forces a run-off election.
- Presently, 110 additional vote-by-mail ballots are either missing a voter signature or do not match DMV signatures on-file, but can be cured by the voter before certification.
