Madera County strikes new deal with ambulance provider

Emergency response time will get better for the county’s suburban population.

Madera County has agreed to a new contract with its ambulance service, the first overhaul of the contract since 1984.

Tuesday, the Madera County Board of Supervisors agreed to a new contract with Pistoresi Ambulance of Madera County Inc.

The backstory: Pistoresi Ambulance has been the provider of emergency medical services in Madera County for over 50 years.

The big picture: The new contract is intended to enhance Pistoresi’s services to cover the county’s growing suburban population.

  • Several zones within Madera County have been reclassified from “rural” to “suburban” in the new deal.
  • That reduces the allowable response time for high-priority calls from 20 minutes to 12 minutes.
  • Zones that were reclassified include Eastside Acres, Madera/Bonadelle Ranchos, Tesoro Viejo, Riverstone and Rolling Hills, among others.
  • Pistoresi will also be penalized if critical response time requirements are not met.
  • The new contract is for five years.

What they’re saying: “I am deeply grateful to the many stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this contract a reality,” said Supervisor Jordan Wamhoff. “This is a huge win for public safety in Madera County. The improvements we’ve secured in this contract will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our residents. When I ran for office, I promised to make enhancing ambulance services a priority, and today, I am proud to say that we have delivered on that promise.”
