Stefanie Silveira Chavez, sister-in-law to U.S. Labor Secretary, launches Kings Co. Supervisor bid

The Kings County realtor launched her bid to succeed longtime Kings County Supervisor Joe Neves in the Lemoore-Stratford area seat.

Another candidate has filed to run for the Kern County Board of Supervisors in District 1.

Local realtor Stefanie Silveira Chavez filed to run on Monday.

Driving the news: Silveira Chavez, who is the sister-in-law of U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, works as a realtor throughout Kings, Fresno, Tulare and San Luis Obispo counties.

  • She also remains an active member of her family’s farming operation.

State of the race: The District 1 seat is opening up with longtime Supervisor Joe Neves retiring after serving on the board since 1994.

  • Local farmer Garrett Gilcrease, who is the President of the Kings County Farm Bureau, previously filed to run for the seat.
  • District 1 covers most of Lemoore and all of Stratford, as well as Naval Air Station Lemoore.

What she’s saying: “I decided to run for Kings County Supervisor District 1 because I love this community. I was born and raised here. This is my home, and I am invested in its future,” Silveira Chavez told The Sun. “Local leadership should be rooted in real-world experience, not theory.”

  • Silveria Chavez said she understands the risks farmers take, the impact of water policy and the pressures facing small businesses and working families because she deals with those issues every day.
  • “I see where county decisions help and where they miss the mark,” Silveira Chavez said. “District 1 deserves leadership that will protect property and water rights, defend our agricultural backbone, demand fiscal responsibility, and plan for growth without sacrificing our rural identity. I am running to bring accountability, transparency, and strong representation that puts our community first.”
