National Neo-Nazi group headed to Fresno in search of new members

An event to recruit members to a Texas-based neo-Nazi group has put Fresno police on alert.

A national Aryan White supremacist group is making a splash in Fresno at the end of the month.

The Aryan Freedom Network has circulated a flier saying the group will hold a “meet and greet” on Jan. 28.

The big picture: The flier does not include any details pertaining to the time or place of the meet and greet, instead directing people to their website: white-power.org.

  • The Aryan Freedom Network is based out of Texas, and its website says a Fresno chapter exists.
  • Anyone looking to become a member has to meet certain standards to join, including being 100 percent of White European ancestry, including Nordic Slavic, Mediterranean, Celtic or Germanic background. The group also denies membership to Satanists and anyone who has committed a crime “against the White Working Class,” per its website.
  • As part of its mission statement, the Aryan Freedom Network seeks to end non-White immigration to Europe, North America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

What they’re saying: The Fresno Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are aware about the upcoming meeting.

  • “The Fresno Police Department will always balance ensuring our community’s safety through the enforcement of laws with the Constitutional right to freedom of speech,” Police Chief Paco Balderrama said in a statement. “Hate and fear, from anyone or any group, is unacceptable, and criminal acts based upon hate and fear will not be tolerated in our city.”
