Fresno County’s Leo Politi Branch Library is moving to a much larger location.
The Fresno County Board of Supervisors approved a lease agreement for the library to move on Tuesday.
The big picture: The Politi Branch Library is currently located at the southeast corner of First St. and Bullard Ave.
- The new location will be at 6074 N. First St., which is located at the northeast corner of First St. and Bullard Ave.
- While the current location is just over 5,000 square feet, the library will be able to expand by four-times its size, as the new location offers 21,400 square feet.
- The new location will offer expanded children’s and young adult sections, additional public computers, meeting rooms, a quiet study space and a multi-use community room.
What they’re saying: Fresno County said the expansion will allow the library to accommodate a growing collection of books, digital media and other resources.
- The new location will also provide ample room for community events, library programs and study areas.
- “We are incredibly excited about this move,” said Sally Gomez, Director of the Fresno County Public Library. “The new space will not only allow us to expand our offerings but also create a more welcoming and functional environment for our patrons. We envision this new location as a hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement.”
- The county said the relocation would not be possible without the advocacy and support of the Friends of the Leo Politi Library.
- “The Friends of the Leo Politi Library are thrilled to have a new larger library available to our community,” said Janet Classen with the group. “A great big thanks to all who supported us and helped make this long-time dream come true.”
Go deeper: The new location is currently occupied by Rite Aide and will need to be extensively renovated.
- Funding for the relocation and renovation comes from Measure B, which is a one-eighth percent sales tax in Fresno County.
