Fresno man sentenced to prison for car bombings

Paul New used pipe bombs to destroy cars at multiple businesses around Fresno.

A Fresno man has been sentenced to prison for a series of pipe bombings that took place in late 2022 and early 2023. 

The big picture: Paul New, 57, committed a series of pipe bombings on unoccupied vehicles and property in Fresno from November 2022 to February 2023. 

  • New bombed vehicles that belonged to two auto-related businesses, as well as a vehicle used by a home healthcare business. 
  • He will spend three years in prison for conspiracy to destroy property and malicious destruction by means of an explosive device. 

Flashback: His co-defendant, Scott Eric Anderson, was sentenced to three years in prison as well last October. 

  • Anderson had been involved in several pipe bombing incidents, including one at the Fresno County Probation Office.
