Former Fresno police cadet arrested by FBI

Two other police employees are facing an internal investigation following the former cadet’s arrest.

A former Fresno police cadet has been taken into custody by the FBI on a federal weapons charge.

The Fresno Police Department announced Thursday that the former cadet is Joshua Brown, 27.

Driving the news: Fresno police said that it was made aware of an investigation initiated by the FBI into Brown in late June.

  • Fresno police fully cooperated with the FBI since being advised of the investigation.

The big picture: Brown, who was hired by the department in September 2023, was taken into custody by the FBI on Tuesday.

  • The Police Department terminated Brown, meaning he is no longer a city employee.
  • Further, two other department personnel have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

What they’re saying: “The Fresno Police Department takes its responsibility to those living and working in our city very seriously,” said Interim Chief Mindy Casto. “Allegations of misconduct will be thoroughly investigated in an ongoing effort to build and maintain the trust of our community.”
