Kern County CAO James Zervis leaves for Florida

Zervis only held the county’s top administrative job for six months.

Kern County Chief Administrative Officer James Zervis is leaving the south valley to move to Florida.

Zervis has accepted a job with the city of Boca Raton, Florida, according to a report from the Bakersfield Californian.

The big picture: Boca Raton is hiring Zervis as its financial services director.

  • The move, Zervis told the Californian, is so he and his wife can be closer to their children in Indiana and Kansas.
  • Zervis leaves his position after just six months on the job, as he ascended to the county’s top spot in August of last year.
  • In 2020, Zervis was appointed as Kern County’s Chief Operations Officer. Prior to that, Zervis worked for Shafter from 2011-2020 and Wasco from 2009-2011.
