Explosion rocks Kern Co. hydrogen bus fueling station

The explosions arrived as Kern GET busses were being refueled with hydrogen fuel.

A hydrogen cell fueling station in Bakersfield exploded into flames on Tuesday, destroying one of Kern County Golden Empire Transit’s $1.1 million busses in the process.

Driving the news: The $3 million bus filling facility located at Golden State Ave. and F Street was engulfed in flames following explosions occurring on the tanks of the bus following a fill-up early Tuesday morning.

What they’re saying: “The situation this morning could have been worse but with the functioning safety mechanisms in place and the swift action of the Bakersfield Fire Department minimized damage and no injuries were reported,” the transit agency announced.
