Ex-Delano Police Chief arrested for contacting minor for sex

Mark Derosia was last with the Delano Police Department in 2017.

Former Delano Police Chief Mark Derosia was arrested by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly contacting a minor for sex. 

Derosia, 68, was booked into jail and charged with contacting and arranging with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense. 

Driving the news: The arrest came as a result of an operation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims Unit, aimed at identifying individuals trying to contact minors for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities.

  • Derosia allegedly engaged with an undercover agent posing as a 15-year-old, and conversations between them turned sexual. They arranged to meet for sex.
  • The arrest of Derosia took place near Olive and Knudsen drives.
  • He was booked into the Kern County the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Reception Center with bail set at $100,000. 
  • Derosia was previously fired as Delano police chief in November 2017, with no official comment made by city officials at the time regarding the dismissal.
