Community Health System has already found its successor to retiring CEO Craig Castro, naming Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Craig Wagoner to the position.
Wagoner has served in his role since April 2020, with the Community Board of Trustees saying he has impressed in that time.
Flashback: The hospital announced two weeks ago that Castro will retire early next year after taking over leadership of Community in 2020.
What we’re watching: Wagoner will officially succeed Castro on Feb. 3, 2025, a move that keeps Community’s succession plan intact.
Driving the news: Wagoner started his career with Community nearly 18 years ago as the Chief Operating Officer of Clovis Community Hospital.
- Throughout his time with the healthcare organization, Wagoner has served in a number of roles, including Chief Operating Officer for Community Regional Medical Center and CEO of CRMC. He then went on to become CEO of both CRMC and Clovis Community before rising to his current position.
What he’s saying: Community Board Chair Roger Sturdevant said in an announcement Monday that Wagoner has been an appealing candidate to other hospital organizations across the nation.
- “Craig is fiercely committed to advancing healthcare in our region and fulfilling our mission to better the lives of all those we serve,” Sturdevant said. “We are incredibly fortunate to have someone as uniquely equipped as Craig to take the helm, build on our accomplishments, and lead our great organization to new heights of success.”
