Kings Canyon Unified School District is opening a new Student Support Center on Friday.
The Student Support Center will support homeless and foster youth, as well as immigrant families that are entering the district.
The big picture: Two social workers will be available at the Student Support Center for walk-in appointments from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday.
- A dedicated social worker will also support homeless students and those in the foster care system.
- The center will also give students in need access to new clothing, backpacks, hygiene products, laundry detergent and food boxes.
State of play: The district said its migrant program serves over 460 students every year.
- All migrant staff in the district will now work at the support center moving forward.
What they’re saying: “The Student Support Center is not just a building; it is a lifeline for many of our students and their families,” said Superintendent John Campbell. “The services we will provide here will make a big difference in the lives of our students, many of whom are in very vulnerable circumstances.”
