Clovis Community College receives $500k donation for athletics

A local Clovis special needs educator is giving the community college a significant gift to help student-athletes.

Clovis Community College has received a major donation to boost its athletics programs.

State Center Community College District announced Tuesday that Clovis Community College has received a $500,000 donation from the Diamond Learning Center.

Driving the news: The Diamond Learning Center, based in Clovis, is an educational institution that helps adult students, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

  • Jami Hamel De La Cerda owns the Diamond Learning Center and opened it after serving special education students throughout her career and working with her son, who has Down syndrome.
  • De La Cerda also founded Gems for L.I.F.E., a program that supports services for younger students, fosters relationships and creates employment opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities.

The big picture: De La Cerda has provided financial support for Clovis Community Program’s athletic programs over the last two years.

  • The to-be-constructed Clovis Community College Sports Complex will be named the ISE Diamond L.I.F.E. Sports Complex.
  • State Center Community College District said De La Cerda’s support has provided expanded opportunities and support for student-athletes.
