Andrew G. Alvarado, the Superintendent of Fresno County’s third-largest school district, resigned his post Tuesday following his arrest for suspected domestic violence and eventual investigation by Madera County prosecutors.
Alvarado tendered his resignation during closed session of Tuesday’s Central Unified school board meeting.

The Sun broke news of Alvarado’s June 4 arrest at his northwest Fresno home and was released from Fresno County Jail after posting $2,500 bond.
Shortly after news of the arrest, the Central Unified’s School Board placed Alvarado on administrative leave and initiated an investigation into his conduct.
Madera County prosecutors were tapped to investigate and potentially charge Alvarado after Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp cited a conflict of interest and transferred the case in June.
By August, Madera County’s District Attorney declined to charge him, citing insufficient ability to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
Ketti Davis has been serving as Central Unified’s interim superintendent since Alvarado was placed on leave.
