Central Unified parts ways with Superintendent Ketti Davis

Davis spent nearly three decades with the district and started as a teacher.

A second major school district in Fresno County is on the look for a new superintendent.

Central Unified School District announced Wednesday that Ketti Davis will no longer serve as the superintendent, joining Fresno Unified as two of the area’s large school districts to be without a permanent leader.

The big picture: Central Unified announced that the district’s Governing Board determined it appropriate to seek a change and was pleased that an amicable separation agreement was reached with Davis.

  • The district will honor the terms of Davis’ employment agreement while having the ability to move in a different direction.
  • Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Tami Boatright will be the Administrator in Charge of Central Unified until the board selects an interim superintendent.

Driving the news: Davis joined Central Unified as a teacher at Madison Elementary School in 1992 and moved her way up to become a principal in Sanger Unified for five years.

  • She returned to Central Unified to lead the educational services department and became the superintendent in May 2022.
  • Davis was the first teacher to rise to the superintendent position in the history of Central Unified.

What they’re saying: “The Board is focused on Central Unified’s unwavering commitment to its guiding principles of academic excellence, high expectations, and continuous improvement,” Central Unified said in a statement. “As we move forward, the Board is focused on a smooth transition that results in a continued focus on the District’s long-term vision and the success of its students. The Board will continue to prioritize educational excellence and the growth of every student within the community.”

  • Davis said in a statement that being superintendent was one of the greatest honors of her career and she is grateful to the community and the district’s team for their support and commitment to the students.
  • While this chapter is coming to a close, my journey in education is far from over,” Davis said. “I look forward to new opportunities that will allow me to continue advocating for students and supporting the educators who shape their futures.”
