Staff of the 80 members of the California State Assembly are now under a vaccine mandate, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D–Paramount) announced in a memo Monday.
Assembly staff are required to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 1, offering legislative staffers two weeks to make the move.
“The great majority of staff – more than 80 percent – has already been fully vaccinated against COVID,” Rendon said in the memo. “I’m proud that this rate is far above the state rate – about 54 percent.”
The memo does not outline what is required for individuals with a medical or religious exemption, other than directing them to the Assembly Rules Committee Human Resources office.
The California State Senate has yet to issue a similar mandate for its staff.
