Christopher Patrick Laney, a 34-year-old man from Lancaster, was arrested on various charges, including distributing fentanyl resulting in death, operating an unregistered aircraft to facilitate felony narcotics activities and possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to distribute.
The big picture: Laney allegedly used an unregistered drone between December 2022 and January 2023 to deliver fentanyl and other narcotics from his residence to a nearby church parking lot, where they were then handed over to customers, including a woman who died of a fentanyl overdose in January 2023.
- Video footage captured by the drone revealed that Laney used the drone on multiple occasions to distribute drugs.
- Along with drug-related charges, Laney was also found in possession of an AR-15 rifle and two 9 mm semiautomatic pistols at his home.
- These firearms, referred to as “ghost guns” for lacking serial numbers, are challenging for law enforcement to trace.
What we’re watching: If Laney is convicted on all charges, he could potentially face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
