Central Coast barbecue landmark closes down

The popular barbecue restaurant made it over 50 years before shutting down this week.

One of the Central Coast’s staple restaurants is shutting its doors after over half a century in business.

F. McLintocks Saloon and Dining House in Shell Beach announced that it is closing down.

The big picture: A sign was posted on the door of the restaurant announcing the closure.

  • “It is with great sadness that after 51 great years we announce F. McLintocks has closed its doors,” the sign reads. “Thank you for your many years of support.”

Driving the news: KSBY reported that the restaurant served its last meal on Sunday, with the final checks handed out to employees on Tuesday.

Flashback: Another F. McLintocks location closed in Arroyo Grande in March after nearly 40 years in business.

  • KSBY reported at the time that the Arroyo Grande location was hit hard by rising food costs, inflation and the COVID-19 pandemic. The company hoped to strengthen the Shell Beach and San Luis Obispo location by closing the Arroyo Grande restaurant.

What we’re watching: The final location in San Luis Obispo was also closed on Tuesday, but there were no official reports that the location was shutting down as well.
