California Legislature to consider anti-Hamas resolution

State lawmakers will have an opportunity to formally condemn Hamas and call for all hostages to be released.

Assembly Republicans have introduced a resolution into the Legislature to formally condemn Hamas.

The resolution also condemns antisemitism in California and around the world.

Driving the news: Republican Leader James Gallagher (R–Yuba City) introduced the resolution, which was co-authored by Assembly Republicans and Sen. Shannon Grove (R–Bakersfield).

  • The resolution – tilted Assembly Concurrent Resolution 119 – also calls for Hamas to release all hostages and condemns the acts of sexual violence and theft of relief supplies that are intended for Gaza’s civilian population.

What they’re saying: “The terrorism perpetrated by Hamas, and celebrated by its sympathizers, is disgusting,” Gallagher said in a statement. “Unfortunately, even here in California, we have seen attempts to justify Hamas’ actions. We must show moral clarity – rejecting the group’s hateful ideology should not be controversial. The hatred and violence directed at Jews is a cancer that must be condemned.”
