Aaron Rodgers donates $50,000 to help Park Fire victims

The Jets quarterback continued his philanthropy in Butte County with another donation to provide wildfire relief.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has donated $50,000 to a Northern California nonprofit to assist in the relief and recovery of the Park Fire.

North Valley Community Foundation, located in Butte County, announced the donation on Wednesday.

The big picture: The Park Fire started on July 24 and is already the fifth largest wildfire in state history.

  • The foundation has awarded 10 grants so far to local groups for wildfire relief, totaling $87,500.
  • That includes $10,000 to the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, which is distributing gift cards and providing emotional care to evacuees.
  • The foundation also gave a $2,500 grant to the Chico Food Locker.

What they’re saying: “We are so grateful for Aaron’s love and care for his hometown and all of the North Valley,” said foundation President and CEO Alexa Benson-Valavanis. “Whether it’s the Camp Fire, a global pandemic or this fire, Aaron is quick to ask how he can help people here. He knows how important it is to help the helpers with resources, so they can support fire victims.”

Flashback: As Benson-Valavanis noted, this isn’t the first time Rodgers has been generous to his home state of California.

  • Rodgers partnered with the foundation in 2021 to start the Aaron Rodgers Small-Business COVID-19 fund to help struggling businesses who suffered because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • He donated $1 million to the fund, and Jeopardy! also gave a donation, with over 150 businesses in Butte County receiving around $1.6 million.
  • Rodgers has also helped out with the devastating Camp Fire and the Thompson Fire earlier this year.
