Repeated fires at Fresno thrift store ruled accidental

Fire officials have ruled out arson as the cause of three fires in the past few weeks at a local thrift store.

Investigators have determined that three recent fires at Fresno’s Mission Thrift Stores were accidental.

The Fresno Fire Department released a statement after investigating the third fire at the thrift store in recent weeks, determining that the fires were not caused by arson.

Driving the news: The first fire at Mission Thrift, located on Sierra Ave. between Blackstone Ave. and Fresno St., occurred on July 10.

  • That was quickly followed by another fire on July 11.
  • Firefighters responded to a third fire on July 27, around 1:10 p.m.

Go deeper: Fire crews found a large pile of donated items that were burning outside of the building when they arrived on July 27.

  • It took 39 firefighters over five hours to fully extinguish the fire and check for any remaining hot spots.

What they’re saying: “After a detailed investigation – including an on-site inspection and review of security video – fire investigators determined this most recent fire was accidental, just like the two previous ones,” the Fire Department said in a statement. “There is no evidence of arson or any intentional cause.”

  • The Fire Department continued, “The Fresno Fire Department takes repeated incidents like this seriously and is working closely with the property owner and management to help prevent future fires.”
