Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against companies like DuPont and 3M for their alleged use of toxic forever chemicals in consumer products.
The lawsuit alleges that companies like DuPont’s Teflon and 3M’s Scotchgard contained harmful PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals that pose substantial risks to consumers.
The big picture: The defendants are accused of marketing products containing PFAS chemicals while concealing the risks associated with them, despite being aware of the harmful effects for over 50 years.
Driving the news: PFAS chemicals have been widely used in consumer products like nonstick pans, waterproof clothing, and cosmetics, and have been linked to various health issues, including cancers, thyroid problems, immune system issues, and fertility issues.
- These chemicals, known as forever chemicals due to their long persistence in the environment, are estimated to be present in the blood of virtually every American.
