Marine recruiter arrested for contacting minors for sex

A Marine recruiter who had been working in Fresno used his position to send inappropriate images to female minors.

A Marine Corps recruiter who was working in Fresno has been arrested on charges of contacting minors for sexual purposes. 

Phillip Rodriguez, 32, lives in Palmdale and was booked into the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County before being released on bail. 

The big picture: Rodriguez faces felony charges of contacting minors for the purpose of sex, possession of child sexual abuse material and sending harmful matter to minors. 

  • He is scheduled to appear in a Fresno County courtroom on Nov. 25. 

Driving the news: The Central California Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a criminal report in February 2024 and began investigating Rodriguez. 

  • Rodriguez was tasked with interacting with minors who were interested in joining the military. 
  • He sent inappropriate images to at least three female potential recruits who were minors.
