Parlier man indicted on mail fraud for false disability insurance claims

The man caused over $300,000 in losses from his mail fraud.

A Parlier man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of mail fraud.

The big picture: Court documents state that Leonel Hernandez, 51, was a supervisor for a farm labor contractor in Sanger.

  • He submitted falsified disability insurance claims using identities of people known to him from March 2017 to October 2020. Some of the people were already deceased, while others were farm laborers in Sanger and Fresno.
  • Hernandez forged physician signatures on the disability insurance claim forms, falsely certifying medical information that was allegedly obtained through examinations.
  • Hernandez used the U.S. Postal Service to submit at least 20 claims and caused losses which exceeded $300,000.

What we’re watching: Hernandez faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
