Pelosi attacker sentenced to life in prison

The attacker has already been locked up behind bars for federal crimes committed last year.

David DePape, the man who broke into Nancy Pelosi’s home and attacked her husband with a hammer two years ago, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The sentencing occurred in a San Francisco court, concluding all legal cases against DePape.

The big picture: DePape, 44, is already serving a 30-year sentence for federal crimes committed last year, and his state sentence will run concurrently with his federal sentence in a state prison.

The backstory: The attack took place in the early morning of Oct. 28, 2022, at the Pelosi residence, where DePape confronted Paul Pelosi, mistaking him for Nancy Pelosi and assaulting him with a hammer.

  • Paul Pelosi suffered two skull fractures and underwent surgery for his injuries, with lingering effects mentioned during DePape’s state and federal trials.

Driving the news: In a letter to the judge, Paul Pelosi requested the severest possible sentence for DePape and described the lasting trauma for him and his family since the attack.
