First Lady Jill Biden has unveiled an updated White House public tour that aims to engage visitors’ senses and provide a more interactive and educational experience.
The revamped tour now includes access to previously off-limits rooms such as the Diplomatic Reception Room, the library, the China Room, the Vermeil Room and greater access to rooms on the State Floor.
The big picture: New displays featuring written details about the rooms, historical information, and interactive experiences encourage visitors to touch, see and hear the history of the White House.
- The updates also incorporate replicas of historic items, loops of place settings, and screens for reading, catering to different learning styles.
Driving the news: The first lady led the efforts to expand and enhance the tour, which includes video greetings from herself and President Biden, with provisions for future administrations to continue the interactive experience.
- The two-year project was a collaborative effort involving the first lady’s office, the National Park Service, the White House Curator’s office, the White House Historical Association, presidential libraries, and the History Channel.
