Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance have agreed to debate each other on October 1, setting up a potential matchup of vice presidential candidates while early voting in some states is underway for the general election.
CBS News had invited both Vance and Walz to debate in New York City, offering four possible dates for the debate, with both candidates agreeing to the October 1 date.
The big picture: The debate will be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan of Face the Nation.
- The pair might also meet for a debate earlier than the one scheduled on CBS.
- Vance challenged Walz on X to also debate on Sep. 18 on CNN, but the Harris-Walz campaign has not confirmed if Walz will agree to that.
State of play: While it remains to be seen whether Vance and Walz will meet at a second debate, former President Donald Trump will debate Vice President Kamala Harris on Sep. 10 on ABC News.
- Fox News has proposed to host a debate on Sep. 4, and NBC News has proposed one for Sep. 25.
