Hunter Biden has filed a lawsuit against Fox News regarding a mock trial series that was initially released on its subscription streaming service, Fox Nation.
The lawsuit, filed in the Supreme Court of New York, alleges that Fox News targeted Hunter Biden with the intention to harass, annoy, alarm, and humiliate him, as well as tarnish his reputation.
The big picture: According to Biden’s attorneys, the series aimed to commercialize Hunter Biden’s personality and deliberately manipulated facts, distorted the truth, presented events out of context, and fabricated dialogue for entertainment purposes.
- Hunter Biden’s legal team had previously threatened to sue Fox News over the mock trial series in April, prompting the network to remove the series from its streaming service.
- Fox News responded to the situation by stating that the program had been available since 2022 and that they were reviewing the concerns raised, leading them to take it down “out of an abundance of caution.”
What they’re saying: “This entirely politically motivated lawsuit is devoid of merit,” stated a Fox News spokesperson. “The core complaint stems from a 2022 streaming program that Mr. Biden did not complain about until sending a letter in late April 2024. The program was removed within days of the letter, in an abundance of caution, but Hunter Biden is a public figure who has been the subject of multiple investigations and is now a convicted felon. Consistent with the First Amendment, FOX News has accurately covered the newsworthy events of Mr. Biden’s own making, and we look forward to vindicating our rights in court.”
