An Armenian national has pleaded guilty to assaulting an officer at a Kern County Immigration Detention Facility.
Arsen Tonoyan, 46, pleaded guilty to assault on a federal officer or employee that inflicted bodily injury in federal court on Monday.
The big picture: Court documents state that Tonoyan, a former resident of Los Angeles, was a detainee at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Golden State Annex detention facility in Kern County.
- On March 7, 2022, Tonoyan walked up to a detention officer and hit him multiple times, which caused the officer to fall to the ground.
- The officer suffered bodily injuries, including a concussion, cuts and swelling on his face and shoulder pain from the attack.
What we’re watching: Tonoyan will be sentenced on Sep. 16 and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
