Cal Poly Humboldt has been shut down through at least Wednesday after clashes between pro-Palestinian protesters and police on Monday.
The entire campus closed down, and classes have been temporarily moved online due to the protests.
Driving the news: Hundreds of protesters occupied Siemens Hall and have refused to leave, demanding that the university disclose its ties and divest from companies that support the Israeli military.
- The university said at least three people were arrested as of Tuesday.
- Protests at college campuses across the country have erupted in support of Palestinians and anger at Israel’s handling of the Israel-Hamas War, with allegations of antisemitism at these protests causing fear among Jewish students.
- The demonstrations have extended to UC Berkeley, Columbia University, and USC, with USC canceling its commencement speech due to “security concerns” over the class valedictorian’s outspoken views about the Middle East conflict.
What they’re saying: “We will not negotiate our leaving until the university divests,” the group Humboldt for Palestine wrote in a statement on Instagram on Tuesday.
