California State University faculty members ended their strike on Monday, the same day that it started.
Monday evening, the California Faculty Association announced that a tentative agreement has been reached with the CSU system, returning all professors back to class on Tuesday.
The big picture: Per the agreement, CSU faculty will receive a five percent salary increase, a far cry from the 12 percent raises the CFA was bargaining for.
- The salary floor for the lowest-paid faculty will be bumped by $3,000. There is also a Salary Step Increase of 2.65 percent for 2024-2025.
- Aside from salary, the deal increases paid parental leave from six to 10 weeks and improves access to gender-inclusive restrooms and lactation spaces, among other things.
What they’re saying: “The collective action of so many lecturers, professors, counselors, librarians, and coaches over these last eight months forced CSU management to take our demands seriously. This Tentative Agreement makes major gains for all faculty at the CSU,” CFA President Charles Toombs said.
