The Chief Probation Officers of California elected Chief Probation Officer Kelly Vernon as the 2024 CPOC President.
Vernon will be the first Probation Chief from Tulare County to serve as CPOC President.
Driving the news: Vernon was elected to the post along with Vice President Chief Steve Jackson from San Joaquin County and Secretary/Treasurer Chief Esa Ehmen-Krause of Contra Costa County.
- With her election as president, Vernon brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position.
- She previously served as Chief Probation Officer for Kings County. In March Vernon became the Tulare County Probation Chief.
What they’re saying: Vernon said in a statement that she is proud to be selected as the next president.
- “Thank you for selecting me to lead an organization that plays such an important role in our communities by working tirelessly to transform the lives of people in our justice system and make our communities safer for all,” Vernon said. “I am honored to be given this opportunity to continue guiding policies and practices in prevention, community-based corrections, and rehabilitation of justice-involved individuals in our communities.”
- Chief Jennifer Branning, the immediate past President of the CPOC, said she has no doubt that Vernon will be an exemplary leader.
- “For years she has been a dedicated leader within the probation profession,” Branning said. “I have no doubt her visionary approach and ability to work collaboratively will be a huge value to CPOC and equips her well for this role.”
