A majority of Californians think the state is heading in the wrong direction, according to a poll from the Public Policy Institute of California.
It’s the largest disapproval rating in the state in over a decade.
The big picture: According to the poll, 58 percent of Californians think the state is going down the wrong path, compared to 41 percent who think the state is going in the right direction.
- The last time Californians disapproved of the state’s direction this much was in 2012, when numbers reached as high as 63 percent.
- On the flip side, 52 percent of Californians approve of the job that Gov. Gavin Newsom is doing, dropping just two percent since October.
- But 45 percent of the state approves of the job that the Legislature is doing.
- Republicans by and large disapprove of the state’s direction, with 90 percent voicing opposition, while 32 percent of Democrats approve of where California is going.

- Newsom is most popular in the Bay Area with 62 percent support, while the Inland Empire is his worst performing area at 41 percent. The Central Valley supports Newsom at a 45 percent rate.
- Demographically, Newsom is most popular among African Americans at 67 percent, while the majority of White do not approve of him.
