Highway 46 has reopened ahead of schedule, allowing drivers for the first time in months.
Driving the news: Caltrans announced Sunday that Highway 46 in Kern County reopened after being closed for nearly two months.
- Caltrans shut down the highway in October to work on a road widening project near Los Hills.
- The closure was originally scheduled through Wednesday, but Caltrans crews and Granite Construction finished the job early.
- The Highway 46 Widening Project is scheduled to finish next summer.
What they’re saying: “We’re pleased to see an end to this full closure and the roadway open ahead of holiday travel,” said Caltrans District 6 Director Diana Gomez in a statement. “I would also like to extend our gratitude to the community for their patience, and our project partners for their diligence in bringing this operation to completion ahead of schedule.”
