Kingdoms of Asia gets opening date at Chaffee Zoo

At long last, Fresno’s Zoo will open its latest expansion exhibit.

The Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s latest exhibit is scheduled to open up this summer after a few years of construction.

The big picture: Kingdoms of Asia, an exhibit focused on the culture and wildlife of Southeast Asia, will open to the public on June 3.

  • Fresno Chaffee Zoo members will have an opportunity to experience the exhibit before its public opening on the member preview days from May 25 to May 31.
  • Visitors are asked to reserve a timed ticket for entry to the exhibit, which will be available on the zoo’s website starting May 4 for no additional charge.

Go deeper: Kingdoms of Asia is themed after Angkor Wat and will house Malayan tigers, Komodo dragons, sloth bears, Asian songbirds and other animals found in Southeast Asia.

  • Construction started on the $42 million project – funded by Measure Z – in 2020, and the exhibit spans about three acres located south of Sea Lion Cove and west of the African Adventure.
  • The exhibit will also feature new meeting and classroom space that is immersed within the habitats.

What they’re saying: “This is an incredible addition to the experience here, an immersive journey into the habitats, the cultures and the wildlife of Southeast Asia,” said Fresno Chaffee Zoo CEO Jon Dohlin in the announcement.
