After cutting ties with nine-year starting quarterback Derek Carr, the Las Vegas Raiders have found their new man: Jimmy Garoppolo, inking a three-year, $67.5 million deal on Monday.

The backstory: The Raiders released their longtime starting quarterback Derek Carr last month, and Jarrett Stidham, who replaced him as starter for the last two games of the previous season, is a free agent.
- Garoppolo spent over five seasons with the 49ers after being traded to the team from the New England Patriots in October 2017.
- Upon his arrival, Garoppolo led the Niners to five consecutive wins, earning him a five-year, $137.5 million contract that made him the highest-paid player in the league at the time.
Driving the news: Garoppolo’s contract includes a $34 million guarantee for the signal caller, a significant decrease from the $43 million guarantee due to Carr if the Raiders did not cut him shortly after the Super Bowl.
- Garoppolo previously played for Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels during his time with the New England Patriots, and the two will now be reunited in Las Vegas.
