With the 2024 election on the minds of many politicians, Nancy Pelosi has made up her mind in endorsing House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff as long as Senator Feinstein chooses not to run for re-election.
Driving the news: On Thursday, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed Adam Schiff for the high-profile California Senate Primary with the condition that Feinstein decides to retire and opt out of the running.
- The decision is still up in the air if Senator Feinstein will be running for her 6th term in the U.S. Senate as she is currently 89 years old and has other key Democrats already eyeing for her position. If she does not run, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) plans to replace her with Pelosi sharing that he “knows well the nexus between a strong Democracy and strong economy”.
- There are still a few key Democrats that are intending on capturing Feinstein’s chair in the Senate. Representative Katie Porter (D-Calif.) has already officially launched her campaign while Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) have both shown interest and hopes to petition their bid in the coming months.
What we’re hearing:
- In a written email from Nancy Pelosi herself, she states “If Senator Feinstein decides to seek re-election, she has my whole-hearted support. If she decides not to run, I will be supporting House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff, who knows well the nexus between a strong Democracy and a strong economy. In his service in the House, he has focused on strengthening our Democracy with justice and on building an economy that works for all.”
