Community Regional Medical Center’s postpartum department received a major boost Monday with a $2.5 million donation from a local family of doctors.
The gift came from the Sang family, led by local pediatrician New Sang on Monday.
Sang, who has cared for newborns at CRMC and Clovis Community Medical Center since 2012, said the donation was made in honor of his mother, Orathai Sangrujiveth, a fellow pediatrician who has worked at Community’s hospitals since 1985.
“This gift will enhance patient care for years and years to come,” said Katie Zenovich, Community’s senior vice president for development and external affairs.
“The family making this donation knows Community very, very well. With two pediatricians in the family they have cared for countless newborns at both Community Regional and at Clovis Community. They have made this gift because they want to have a meaningful impact on the birthing experience for Valley families.”
The Sang family’s gift will be used to enhance patient care in the postpartum department, which will include remodeling rooms and adding showers to the bathrooms in the department at CRMC.
In honor of the gift, CRMC announced that the postpartum department will be named the “Sang Family Postpartum and Newborn Care.”
“Our family wants what’s best for the patients at all times, whether they are in the hospital or in the clinics,” Sang said. “We want to give the doctors and nurses the best environment to take care of their patients, and if this gift can help renovate the rooms and make the patients and providers feel more comfortable, I know it will inspire more gifts.”
Sang added that his family is proud of the impact that the donation will make and hopes to inspire more gratitude and nurturing for the hospital and the overall community.
CRMC and Clovis Community deliver over 60 percent of the babies in Fresno County, which totals around 10,000 babies annually.
“This donation is not just an investment in Community Regional,” Community President Craig Castro said. “It is an investment in the thousands of babies who will get their start at Sang Family Postpartum and Newborn Care each and every year.”
