Update: Asm. Rudy Salas has issued a statement regarding this report. Read the updated story here.
If one was searching to find proof that politics have reached another modern milestone, you might just find it in the Golden Empire.
According to screenshots provided to The Sun, Asm. Rudy Salas (D–Bakersfield) is in search of a little bit of love in the digital world.
The issue? Salas is allegedly guilty of one of the cardinal sins of online dating: misrepresenting his age.
In two screenshots, taken by a female Bumble and Tinder user visiting the southern San Joaquin Valley, Salas lists his age as 34 years old.
According to his official biography, he was born in 1977, making him 45 years old, or 10 years older than his dating profiles suggest.
Salas finds himself in the middle of a Congressional battle with Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford) in the newly-drawn 22nd Congressional District, anchored in southern Kings and Kern counties.
In the question-and-answer portion of his Bumble profile, Salas states that his favorite qualities in a person include “honesty, loyalty, and a good heart.”
He also listed his occupation and employer as as an “Agent” of the “Government.”
The Sun contacted Salas’ office for confirmation that the five-term California Assemblyman and Congressional contender is an active dating app user and for clarification on the sizable age gap on the profiles.
His office failed to respond to requests before publication.
