Amazon announced last week that it is opening a new distribution center in Shafter.
The fulfillment center will create over 1,000 full-time and part-time jobs, which will pay $15 an hour.
Departments that Amazon will hire for include resources, operations management, safety, security, finance and information technology.
“Amazon is excited to make this investment in Kern County that will support local economic development and help us deliver to our growing number of customers in the region,” said Jordan Nelson, the Director of Regional Operations for Amazon, in a statement.
The 1 million square-foot warehouse will be located at 4500 Express Ave. and joins the Bakersfield site as the second Amazon fulfillment center in Kern County.
In addition to the two Kern County warehouses, Amazon has several fulfillment centers across the Central Valley. The current locations are Fresno, Manteca, Stockton and Tracy.
Amazon is also opening a new warehouse this year in Visalia.
