California Gov. Gavin Newsom is once again in quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19.
Newsom’s office said Sunday that the governor came into contact with a staff member who tested positive for the coronavirus.
Although Newsom received a negative test result, he will quarantine for 10 days out of an “abundance of caution.”
“The individual in question came into contact with the governor and a few other staff members,” Newsom’s office said in a statement. “The governor tested negative today as did the other staff members.
“In an abundance of caution, the governor will begin a ten-day quarantine per state guidelines. The governor and staff will be tested again in the next few days and continue to follow state and CDC guidelines. We wish our staff member who tested positive well.”
This marks the second time Newsom is quarantining. In November, Newsom quarantined for 14 days after some of his children were exposed to a California Highway Patrol officer who had tested positive for COVID-19.
One of Newsom’s children was also exposed to the coronavirus in Newsom after coming in contact with a classmate at the private school they attend who had contracted the virus.
Notably, Newsom did not quarantine after his infamous dinner party in early November at The French Laundry in Yountville, in which the governor did not follow the COVID-19 guidelines that the state has implemented.
