Will recount reverse Selma City Council’s shakeup?

At 6 p.m. Monday night, the City of Selma is expected to inaugurate a new Mayor and City Council member.

Scott Robertson, a staple on the Selma City Council, is set to take over after defeating incumbent Mayor Louis Franco.

Meanwhile, Blanca Mendoza-Navarro edged out longtime Selma City Councilman Jim Avalos for his seat on the City Council.

There’s a slight wrinkle in the festivities: the contest between Mendoza-Navarro and Avalos is heading to a recount, set to take place Tuesday morning.

How does that affect Mendoza-Navarro’s oath on Monday night? Your guess is as good as ours.

Messages for Fresno County Elections officers and the Selma City Clerk were not returned prior to publication.
